I've Been Bad...

At blogging. Nothing major going on really, just kind of...blah. I've been reading a lot. I guess that's some sort of achievement, right? :)

Feel very female at the moment, so not feeling all that light and fluffy. *sigh* Sometimes I really hate being a girl. *sniffle*

Found out that one of my numerous cousins (whom I've met...six times maybe) has esophogial cancer. Don't know much more than that, but if you could say a prayer for her? Greatly appreciated.

Work next week will be a bear. Not looking forward to it. Get to take care of BOTH nephews for awhile on Monday. Eep!

Going back to my awesome book! Ciao!

La-dee-da-dee-da

I'm really bored, I'm really tired and I have to pee. TMI? Probably, but this just shows how lazy I'm feeling right now. The fact that I'm not just going to bed? Showcases the laziness all the better.

I'm sick & tired of headaches, a funky twitchy left eye & an overall case of the blahs. *sigh* Work is boring, life is boring...I hate to say, but I'm boring. Eesh, that's just sad.

Um...yeah, that's just sad. Wait, I said that already. *eye roll*

Have I done anything remotely productive? Um...yes, actually I did. I stopped at B&N (my home away from home it seems) to see if I could find a couple of books on wolves and birds-of-prey. I'm doing research on my paranormal/urban fantasy/I don't know what to call it right now book. Yes, I have shapeshifters. I'm so lame. :( Anyway, I found some great books there and they were all children's books. So, I've learned children's books are better research material than boring ol' grown up books. :P Yes, I'm a kid at heart. Bite me! LOL!

I think I'm going to go to bed now. My head hurts and my bladder will explode any second. So, I'm off. Nite!

This Guy is...Wow

So the other night I got onto youtube, which is never a good thing to do. I came across this guy named Salah who does poppin', locking and breaking. Basically, the guy is incredible. He can contort his body in ways that just boggle the mind. The whole thing is about 15 minutes long, but honestly, it's totally worth watching the whole thing. And when he speeds things up, it's totally in real time, he's just doing it himself. You'll see what I mean.

Here's Part 1:

Here's Part 2:

Boredom

I was going to get all smart & stuff with a quote from the dictionary, but I'm too stinkin' lazy to even do that. So, I'm bored. Yes, life will go on & I will do other things, but for the moment? I've got nothin'.

I woke up at 10:30 with the thought that I'd get out & do something. It's now a quarter to 9 and I'm lucky I even took a shower today. *sigh*

It's just one of those things, I guess. Boredom, equal boredom, equals...boredom. Though I think I like the word ennui better. It's sounds so upperclass & all that good stuff.

I'm laaaaaaaaaaaazzzzzzzzzzzzzzzyyyyyyyyyyyyyy!!! :P And my poor CP probably thinks I'm hopeless since I haven't sent her her chapter yet. And the sad thing? It's done. I just need to email it to her...well, that's not exactly true. I have Vista, so I've got to figure out how to send it w/o it being in a Word format. *sigh* Fun. :P So, Sarai...it's there and done, honestly. I don't suppose you have a fax # I can just fax it to, do you? :) It's all printed on paper & everything! :D

Well, that's it. I'm going to go watch A&E's P&P again. Mmmmm...Colin Firth. Excuse me whilst I wipe up my drool. Mmmmm. I feel like Homer Simpson. MMMM....Donuts! :D

I'm Just Hangin'

Out that is. I went to bed this morning with a most horrific headache. It kept me up for quite awhile. I finally fell asleep around 5. Slept until 4. Now, I'm just hanging out watch Jane Austen movies.

I just finished watching Emma. I forgot what a good job Gwyneth Paltrow did in that roll. In fact, I thought she was too nice after reading the book. Eesh. And Jeremy Northam as Mr. Knightley. Boy, what a hottie. :)

Now I'm watching Pride and Prejudice. It's the 2005 version. :) Matthew MacFadyen is so yummy as Mr. Darcy. Mrowr! And the funny thing is that he's not all that hot otherwise. *sigh*

I want to wander through the hills and burrows where these movies are made. It's so pretty. *sigh*

Today it's cooled off, so I'm not quite in such danger in melting as I was. It's supposed to be even cooler tomorrow. :) Yay!

Pondering

How much life has changed in the last 200-plus years. As I said recently I've been trying to broaden my reading horizons. So far I've read Pride and Prejudice & I just finished reading Emma a little while ago. While reading these books, I've come to realize that writing & language has changed a great deal since those estimable books were written.

I'm used to books written today. Fast flow of words, minimum of description, no descriptions of close and the like. In Emma alone I encountered a mind-numbing amount of description. I'm also noticing an overabundance of using one person's name over and over in the same paragraph. In one paragraph alone I counted the use of the name Jane Fairfax at least a dozen times (Jane Fairfax, Miss Jane Fairfax, etc). We know who the person is talking about, so why is the same name repeated over and over and over again? It gets almost tedious after awhile.

Are the books good? Yes. In fact, I'd consider them excellent, but they are almost a chore to read. The terminology alone is enough to make one's head hurt. However, I'm pushing onwards and will be reading Persuasion later on tonight. All I can say is thank goodness I've seen all of the movies or I'd be really lost. :)

I'm doing quite well though. My weekend is now started and I'm enjoying reading with a fan pointed at my head. It is quite hot today & is supposed to be as hot if not hotter tomorrow. *sigh* It's really rather depressing.

I'm thinking of surprising my mom with a haircut on Monday. I know, this sounds a bit ridiculous, but she's struggled to get her hair cut right for so long. The only place that does a decent job is Tony & Guy's, but my mom is too cheap to get it done there. I'm thinking of making an appointment and taking her there without her knowledge. It'll be my gift to her. And it'll be just because. :)

Tomorrow is the end of the DIK picks. *sigh* I admit, I'm actually dreading it. This past week or so has been the most fun I've had online...ever. :) The ladies don't know how much being included means to me. I'm trying not to rave and stuff, but it's true. I've never been one to feel or be included in much, so this is cool. I feel like I belong & that's the best feeling a person can get.

So, I'm off. Have a great night, everyone! :)

Sucks Monkey Butt

Life does, sometimes. I got to work today only to be sent home w/o pay. Why? Because I was caught on the internet less than a minute before my break started (or was supposed to start). *sigh* It's stupid and annoying, but I'm moving on.

So, after realizing I'd paid for 3 hours of parking for nothing, I went to go buy my dad his b-day gift. Yes, my dad turns 55 today. Happy Birthday, Dad! He never reads this blog, but I'm still going to say it anyway. :)

Um...read Blue-Eyed Devil by Lisa Kleypas. One of the best books I've ever read. One of my top books for 2008 for certain sure.

Put a bunch of DVD's on hold at the library. Mostly BBC miniseries, but also seasons 2 & 3 of Buffy.

I bought a Dierks Bentley CD all because of one song. *sigh* But I got it used for about $5 and the rest of the CD isn't all that bad. I'm just not a big country fan. And the song I was looking for? This one...

A sexy video and an awesome song. I'm hopeless.

Tired. Need to go to bed, but it's HOT! It went from the mid-60's to 91 in one day. I'm not a happy camper. I don't like being hot. Makes me feel sick to my stomach and I just want to curl up in a lukewarm tub. *sigh*

We're still doing DIK over on Kristie J & Katie(babs). We're about halfway thru, I think. Then it's on to Sula's blog on Sunday to finish it all off. And I won a pony! Is it real or is it imaginary & specific to the island? CJ didn't specify, so I'm hoping it's real. I'll love him and pet him and call him George. Why doesn't anyone know where that quote comes from? Come on! Someone must know. :)

Well, I'm off. Here's hoping I don't melt. *sigh*

I Know, I Know,

I'm posting too much tonight, but I keep clicking publish post, go off and do other things and then get inspired again. 'Tis a sickness.

Anywhoo...wanted to regale you with this nutsoid dream I had the other night. It'll give you a chuckle at least. :)

I dreamt I was on an episode of The Bachelor (ugh!) and instead of the bachelor meeting each woman as she pulls up in the limo, it was all of the women together in one big room. I was the only brunette there (and plus-sized, but that's a totally different rant), while the rest of the women were blond, petite and boobalicious. *eye roll* Anyway, we're all standing around waiting for the Bachelor to be announced. You could totally feel the energy & excitement in the air.

You hear Chris Harrison saying "Ladies, here is your Bachelor!"

Everyone turns to these cheesy white French doors & they swing open.

*drumroll please*

The ugliest & I do mean, ugliest man walks through the doors. He's short, stocky, his face looks like it's been in its fair share of bar fights and he's dressed like the cliche of the citified rancher. He's got a belt buckle the size of a dinner plate & well...it's just sad. In my dream I could actually hear all of the women moan in disgust like "Oh, noes!"

Anyway, the dream jumped me forward to some weird scene in a bedroom. I'm lying on the carpet throwing a temper tantrum because I've hit it off with this bachelor, but have made a muck of things (as per usual) and have ruined my chances with him.

The next thing I know, I'm riding a bucking bear and a giant deer/reindeer runs across the room and slams into my side. I woke up and that was it.

Anyone want to tell me what that was all about? LOL!

DIK Continues Thru Round 5

Boy, oh, boy! Wow! That's all I can say. Here's the listing/ranking so far. I get to choose first tomorrow & I emailed Kristie J w/ my choice. All I can say is it's gettin' hot in here & other things. But, again, why so many gay mens? You'd think with only 20 women stranded on this island that we'd want nothing but straight men to enjoy. I guess they're thinking ahead as to decorations, fixing up the huts all nice & pretty...wait, not all of them are like that. Hmm...will have to think about it. :) Here's the list of heroes so far. I like my list. :)

And can I say that I was totally bummed that Thea took Gambit? If I was going to choose any Comic Book hero, it would've been him. *sigh*

Hmm...

Anyone ever gone to craigslist? I get on there every now & then to entertain myself stupid, especially the love ads. As many of my readers know, my dating experience isn't at the highest level imaginable, which is fine. I don't care about that, but every now and then I get a hankering for finding the "one." Ha! If any of these men are what are out there for me to find, I think I'd rather stay single.

The ads are almost all of the same 2 types; the horny pervert who's looking for...something or the guy who's gotten slammed too many times by women & is taking his frustration out on the rest of us. So many of the entries start with "What do women want?" I thought I'd answer that question here tonight, specifically aimed at what women are looking for when it comes to LOVE ADS. Ladies-Any suggestions that I missed?

*Literacy. Even if you're not a great speller, there is such a thing as spell check. Use it. It might actually garner you a date.

*Proper Punctuation. Please use the correct punctuation. Do not have one giant run-on sentence telling us everything from your dog's name to what type of work you do. End each sentence with a period, question mark, exclamation point, etc. Please!

*No Whining. If a woman's done you wrong in the past, get over it! Do not moan and complain about how all women are evil & will do you wrong. Put it behind you and move on.

*Do NOT Act Like Women Are Sexual Objects. Major pet peeve. There are many types of beauty out there. Just because you like siliconed, blond blow-up dolls does not mean that we need to hear about that. Being close-minded reduces your chances of finding the right woman.

*Do NOT Post a Picture of Yourself that is Less Than Flattering. Boggles my mind how many guys have pictures on their ads that are less than appealing. Make sure your hair is combed, your teeth (if you have any) are brushed, that you're wearing decent clothing & not holding an alcoholic beverage in your hand (especially if you say you don't drink). For one thing, it makes you look like a liar and for another...it makes you look like a lush. So not the image I'm thinking you're trying to make.

*Do Say What You Are Looking For. In terms of a relationship. If you're looking for a sex buddy, state it. Do not go on and on about how you've never found the right woman, etc. when all you want is casual sex. It makes you look like an idiot and again like you're lying.

*Finally...When You Put Pictures on Your Ad...make sure they're actually pictures of you. No sunsets, no animals, no cars, nothing that isn't actually you. For one thing, you're posting, so post a picture of yourself. For another, it's really annoying to click on something expecting a picture and finding some ridiculous picture (that you just KNOW a guy's not really into) of a sunset or something that doesn't even fit the profile.

So, that's my thoughts on this. Could be why I never got into the online personal ads. Just doesn't make any sense, really.

P.S. Also, no pictures of naked genetilia. For one thing, the male penis isn't all that pretty and for another...you take out all of the mystery & it's usually not all that big anyway.

DIK Continues

And it's starting to get serious! Lisabea lost out on her menz, so fighting words were put down, trades were done and now I think everyone is happy? I'm thinking yes. :) Tomorrow it's over to Christine's for Day 5. So far I'm very happy with my choices. I've got Jules Cassidy, Bones, Mr. Darcy & Judd (Caressed by Ice! Sweet!). Tomorrow's pick will ensure my hut is full of yummy mens. :)

I'm doing good. Work was slow today, so I was able to critique my CP's first chapter. Unfortunately, I've got Vista & she doesn't, so I'm trying to figure out the best way to get it over to her. I'm crossing my fingers here. :)

I'm in the midst of reading Emma. Man, what a stuck-up snob! I think Gwyneth Paltrow nailed her portrayal. A stuck-up superior brat! Sheesh!

I got a book in the mail today. I won a copy of it over at Book Binge. It's kind of a sequel for all of Jane Austen's books. I haven't started it yet. Somewhere along the line I will.

The weather was blah & yucky today. I got splashed walking to the corner market during my first break, so my feet weren't happy. *sigh* Oh wells.

Lessee...not much else is going on really. Just really tired. I've had the killer sinuses from hell, so I spent most of the weekend being a lazy slug. How sad & depressing. *sniffle*

Hope everyone is well. Nite!

Broadening My Education & Other Things

So, the other day I decided to pick up a copy of Pride and Prejudice. Yes, I realize how sad it is that it's one of my all-time favorite romances & yet I'd never read the book. I never said I'd do things the easy way. LOL! I finally finished it last night. It took me three days! Eesh! I can't remember the last time anything took me 3 days to read.

Actually, what it was was an inability to comprehend phrases. I'm not stupid by any means, but some of the language! Ack! Made my head hurt. I had to go to my mom a couple of times to ask her what something meant. Thank goodness my mom is smart, otherwise I'd be in a world of hurts. :)

I stopped by B&N on the way home from work yesterday to pick up my copy of Don't Hex With Texas by Shanna Swendson (FINALLY!) and also picked up Emma, Northanger Abbey, Persuasion & The Odyssey by Homer). I remember reading The Odyssey in high school & really enjoying it. I totally shocked my mom when I told her what I'd bought though. The expression on her face was pretty priceless. :)

I hope all the mom's out there had a nice Mother's Day. I bought my mom a huge fern & a beautiful wind chime. My brother & SIL came by with a really pretty hydrangea for her too. Next Saturday is my dad's 55th birthday. I've got to find him something cool for his b-day. He doesn't like me to spend money on him, but he's my dad! And it's his birthday! :) I'm sure I'll be able to find something.

Tomorrow DIK starts up again. We decided to stop it over the weekend because so many of us were busy. I'm not complaining. :) My pick tomorrow is awesome! I love this particular hero. He's so cold, but the heroine warms him right up. Yummy!

I don't have any plans tomorrow, except to get my eyebrows done. They're getting pretty ridiculous. *sigh*

I hope everyone has a good Sunday night/Monday morning. I shall see you all on the morrow!

I Know, I've Been MIA

But, I'm back! Miss me? Actually, I've been obsessed with this DIK thing going on around the blogosphere. It's been a ton of fun seeing who chooses whom for their heroes. My choices so far? Jules Cassidy from Suzanne Brockmann's Troubleshooters, SEALs, et.al series', Bones from Jeaniene Frost's series and Mr. Darcy from Pride and Prejudice. I'll tell you who I chose for tomorrow's...tomorrow. :)

I'm doing good. Work has been really slow this week, so I've been reading. I just finished Sugar Daddy by Lisa Kleypas. *sigh* It was wonderful. I know Kristie J has been raving about the book since it came out, but for some reason I just wouldn't buy it. I love, love, love LK's historical romances. Maybe I was worried that her contemporaries just wouldn't be good enough. Ha! So, I'm smacking myself over that one. *eye roll*

I bought Pride and Prejudice...yes, the actual book. I've seen just about every movie version of that book close to 2-3 dozen times, but have yet to read the book. I love how it starts. What a great opening line: 'It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single man in possession of a good fortune must be in want of a wife.' Clear, concise and to the point. :) Yes, sometimes it's hard for me to read books that are written "true" (i.e. language and weird words), but when they are written well, I can completely & totall overlook that. :)

I'm finding that as I get older that I really enjoy learning. Learning about new places, people, things, etc. I keep telling myself that I need to go back to school. I don't know if it's fear or what that's holding me back, but I want to DO something with my life. I'm tired of being lazy & boring.

I was talking to a girl at work yesterday about something really embarassing that happened to me last week. I said something along the lines of "why is it always me making such an idiot of myself in front of someone I want to impress?" Smarty pants that she is, the girl said "It's because you're TRYING to impress them." Well smack me over the head with the obvious stick. Duh!

All in all, life is decent. I got to see my nephews yesterday. Dylan got his first hair cut a few weeks ago, but I hadn't seen him yet. Boy, he looks like a little boy now. No longer a baby. *sniffle* He's so cute and such a sweetie. Oh yeah, I'm not biased. *snicker* I got to hold Cooper for a couple of minutes. What a darlin' baby. The two boys look very similar, but there are definite differences. My parents are watching him on Saturday night. My brother & SIL are taking Dylan to see Sesame Street. Maybe I'll get to snuggle him a bit. :)

Well, I'm off. Can't wait to see who the new DIK's will be tomorrow. I get to choose first. Boy am I glad I emailed MK with my choices. I didn't do it quick enough yesterday & almost caused a riot! LOL! Have a good night everyone!

Has Anyone Else Seen This?

This is just too, too funny.

My Desert Island Keepers (DIK) List

Okay, so I'm really, really, really late to this, but CJ (and Lisabea, and Sarai &...well the list goes on & on) have this thing over on their blog. List the 6 books you'd want with you if you ever got stranded on a desert island. Here's my list in no particular order....

1. Years by LaVyrle Spencer. One of those books that I can read over and over again without getting sick of it.

2. Carressed by Ice by Nalini Singh. Judd...'nuff said

3. All Through The Night by Suzanne Brockmann. Jules is the man! :)

4. The Dragonriders of Pern by Anne McCaffrey

5. Goddess of the Rose by PC Cast

6. Secrets of a Summer's Night by Lisa Kleypas.

Oh, there are rules to this thing. Since 90% of the participants are on my sidelist, it's not that big a deal. Basically, if you decide to join in on the fun, you cannot choose the same books as any of the rest of us. Since we're all going to be stranded together, we need to be able to read each others books. :)

Meh...

That's how I feel tonight. Just kind of blah and whatnot. *sigh* Got my car back from Les Schwab...finally. Took it in at 11 this morning to get my tires realigned. Didn't get it back until almost 6. But, though I now owe them $250 & change, my car is no longer shimmying. Isn't that the way it always goes? You take your car in for something specific & end up getting way more done than you expected? Happens every time.

Lessee...over on CJ's Blog we're doing the ultimate heroes. As of right now I have 2...if no one takes them. *sigh*

I've got to be at work at 1 tomorrow. Boo, hiss, bah-humbug. *sniffle* I don't wanna go back! I've really gotta start looking for something better. At least what I'm making now & a full 40 hours a week. If I ever want to save up enough for a good down payment on a house, what I'm doing right now will get me nowhere. *sigh* I figure one of these days things will all work out in the end. They always do. :)

I'm very tired tonight. Didn't sleep well at all. Right before I woke up I was having the strangest dream about the actor Christopher Reeve. In my dream he was still alive and could walk...sometimes. He'd had his accident & was paralyzed, but every now & then he could get up and walk. In the dream, though she wasn't there in person, Barbra Streisand is telling him that if he just thinks about it, he can walk all the time. Yeah...weird. And why he was the star of that particular dream is beyond me. I never even thought he was cute.

Today was a beautiful day. Weather had been predicted to be gross & raining, but the sun was out all day long. I'd say it hit maybe the mid-60's, but it was so nice to see the sun out! :)

Well, I'm off. Going to play the Sims 2 for awhile & all that good stuff. Nite, everybody!

Allergies Are Hell...And Other Thoughts

As I've stated before, I hate allergies! I've had them for so long I don't remember life without them. *sigh*

Saturday I was a lazy bum & did not get my room cleaned. Instead, I lazed about the house playing on the computer and basically being a lump. About 6:30 I went over to BB's house & we went to Chevy's for dinner. Maybe this is just mean, but why does that place exist? The food was horrible, the restaurant wasn't my idea of clean, and the service was lackluster at best. I had a chicken salad, but there was maybe half a chicken breast sliced very thinly over the salad. I was basically eating a green salad. And the ranch dressing was that horrible cheap kind that's more funky garlic or whatever than "real" ranch. Yuck! We should have gone to Azteca like I wanted. *sigh*

After dinner we went over to her place and hung out for awhile. It was fun. :) I left her house about 10:30 and went home. I sotpped at Wal-Mart to get some allergy meds and went to Hollywood Video to rent Grand Theft Auto IV. Yes, I rented the "smut" game. LOL! My favorite version of that game so far is San Andreas, but that's just me. I haven't gotten too far yet, because the character Niko went on a date & I ended up having them shoot pool for about...4 hours. LOL!

The weather outside is quite nice. There's a slight breeze blowing & the sky is blue. Yes, it's a miracle! :)

I took my car in to Les Schwab this morning to have them check my tires. I thought I'd knocked the wheels out of alignment, but I just got a call from them & they say everything is just fine! Argh! I know everything is not fine, thankyouverymuch! My car has been shimmying for about 2 months now & it's driving me crazy. I asked him to check the tires themselves to see if something is cockeyed, but we'll see. I'm not having much faith in that. *sigh*

After my car gets fixed *cross fingers* I might go get my eyebrows done. The last time they were done the girl who was doing them waxed my tearduct. Hurt like...well, you can imagine. I need to get them trimmed. Very, very badly.

Tomorrow the new Nora book is out. It's the second one in her Signs of Seven trilogy. Squee! Hopefully this one will be more about the romance. The first one was more about introducing the plot.

Oh, and I did finally clean my bedroom. Yes, I'm slow on the uptake, but about 2:30 yesterday afternoon I couldn't handle it anymore & got it all prettified. It's still not the least bit organized, but all the crap that was sitting on the floor is now either in the garbage or shoved in my closet. :D

Stuff & Other Stuff

Today I am sitting in the living room typing at the computer. I am not sitting in my cubicle at work bored out of my mind. How did this work out? I worked Monday-Friday this past week. Now, I've got 3 days ahead of me to relax. *snort* Yeah, right.

I got up at 10 (on a weekend! horrible!) and was going to stat cleaning my room, but got sidetracked. At a delicious peach/strawberry muffin from this great shop called Sweetness. Played with Chloe-dog and have basically been a lazy bum. I've also been doing some stuff online that isn't...bad. :)

As y'all know, I'm notorious for being A. a dork, B. uncoordinated, and C. embarrassingly moronic in front of attractive guys. So, what did I do? Well, we're having some cosmetic work done at work (painting, new carpeting, etc.) and we've had some very, very cute painters & such hanging out around my job. Yesterday I went out to pay for parking during my first break. As I stepped out of the revolving door, my shoe decided to slip off and I tripped (very slow-motion, ridiculousness on my part). As I caught myself from falling, I looked up to see two of the super cute painters in their van watching my half-gainer across the sidewalk. Of course, this casued me to get horribly embarrassed and I got the hysterical giggles. Why does this keep happening to me? Argh!

I don't know why men and I aren't compatible. Is it because I can't believe they'd ever be attracted to me or do I just have the awkward thing down to such an artform that I can't act "normal" around them? All I know is that my marriage prospects keep getting smaller and smaller every day. *sigh* Sorry, that sounds like a bad Jane Austen monologue. LOL!

But, I might be going out for dinner with my BB tonight. She's a mortgage broker now & I want to talk to her about what I need to do to buy my own home. I've been living with the parents for a long time now & I'm desperate to be independent again. I was on a realtor website yesterday & found a couple of houses that totally called to me. Cheap & falling apart, but I've got the eye that might get them back in working order. Anywho, it's a thought anyway.

I can't handle the idea of living in a condo or anything like that. I don't even want a big house. I'd love to find something with 2 bedrooms and 1 or 2 baths. Something that'll allow me to have a space all my own. We shall see what happens. :)

I'm off! I've got to stop procrastinating & get my butt in gear. Have a great Saturday everyone!

Boys, Boys, Boys...

Did that catch your attention? LOL! Sorry, no boys here, but I got to thinking today after one of those weird "Man, I'm getting old" moments. *sigh*

Down by where I work they've finished putting in the MAX train system & tonight they had a little celebration. They set it up right outside of work, so of course we were bombarded with annoying noises for the last 2 hours of the work day. Anywho, that's not what I'm writing about.

They set up a skateboarding streetcourse as part of this stupid celebration, so of course there were a bunch of skaters going up and down the street. As I heard the sound of the wheels going along the pavement, I was taken back to eighth grade.

Way back when, I had this great friend named Tony. We met in seventh grade when he moved to Portland and he had to sit next to me in one of our classes. We struck up a conversation & then next thing I knew, we were friends. Now Tony was cool. He had great style (this was 88/89, so use your imagination) and was a skater. He was also very cute and I had a mondo crush on him. *sigh*

His best friend lived across the street from me, so I saw Tony all the time. He and his BB would ride up and down my street performing the same tricks over and over and over again. I remember thinking how cool they were & how happy I was to be a part of it, even though I couldn't ride a board to save my life (too uncoordinated).

Tony & I were friends all the way through the summer after 8th grade. Then his BB moved away and we went into high school. Being the kind of guy he was, he went on to be not such a good guy. Drugs for sure and probably alcohol as well. We totally drifted apart & I barely saw him at all in school.

It wasn't until about 6 years after high school was over that I saw him again. I was so happy to see him, but I think he was embarassed. It was one of those weird moments in time where I wanted to act one way, but decided against it.

Anyway, hearing those skaters out there today took me back. Made me think of a good moment in my life. I may roll my eyes at them now, but once upon a time, they were cool...and they were my friends.
